    Assoc. Prof. Alma Braziūnienė visiting the Centre of Baltic Studies at the University of Warsaw

    On October 22-27, Assoc. Prof. Alma Braziūnienė (Faculty of Communication, Vilnius University) was visiting the Centre of Baltic Studies at the University of Warsaw. During her visit, Braziūnienė met with colleagues working in the centre, delivered lectures to students and participated in the discussions regarding book collecting, bibliomania, and bibliophilia.

    KRISTINA VAISVALAVIČIENĖ FROM VYTAUTAS MAGNUS UNIVERSITY VISITING THE UNIVERSITY OF LATVIA

    On 23–30 October, Kristina Vaisvalavičienė, a doctoral student working at the Centre of Letonics  at Vytautas Magnus University, was visiting the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Latvia in Ryga.  She delivered lectures on Lithuanian children’s literature, presented the main researchers of this study field, their main works and publications. Students were also presented translations from the Lithuanian to the Latvian language, their screening versions and interpretations in art. In the Centre of Lithuanian Studies, K. Vaisvilavičienė also discussed the perspectives of the comparative research and consulted students.

    DR. DAIVA VAIŠNIENĖ’S VISIT TO THE CENTRE FOR BALTIC STUDIES AT STOCKHOLM UNIVERSITY

    On the 14–20th of October 2018, Dr. Daiva Vaišnienė from Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences visited the Centre for Baltic Studies at Stockholm University. She delivered a series of lectures and offered seminars on language policy and its regulation in Lithuania.

    AN INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP OF BALTISTICS HELD ON 18-20 OCTOBER IN ESTONIA (TARTU): “CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE BALTIC REGION: CONTACTS AND CONTEXTS”

    On 18-20 October, an international workshop of Baltistics, entitled “Consciousness of the Baltic Region: Contacts and Contexts”, was held in Tartu (Estonia). The workshop was organised by the institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. The papers that were presented by the workshop participants were divided into three parts and presented in three days. The first day of the workshop was dedicated to the teaching of the Baltic languages and their flexibility (what we adopt or permit to integrate into our languages, which Baltic universals are recognized in the symbolic poetic language). On the second day, the participants discussed the problems related to translation, whereas narrower research aspects were discussed on the third day. The friendly atmosphere of the seminar became more intense during the brain battle. The participants also enjoyed the excursion in the Tartu University building built in the classicism style and the screening of the film Arčiau žemės, anapus upės directed by Viktorija Jonkutė. The workshop demonstrated that Lithuanian studies and Baltic studies attract young people when academics manage to present them in an attractive manner.

    PROF. LAIMUTĖ BALODĖ FROM HELSINKI UNIVERSITY VISITING LITHUANIA

    On 13-21 October, Prof. Laimutė Balodė from the University of Helsinki was visiting Vytautas Magnus University and Vilnius University. During her visit in VMU, Prof. Balodė met with colleagues from the centre of Letonics and other fellow professors teaching Lithuanian studies. She delivered two lectures to students on Latvian dictionaries of proper names, place name dictionaries and their structure and a lecture about the newest tendencies for proper names in Latvia and the Baltic region to her fellow professors. During her visit, Prof. Balodė also worked in libraries and attended various scientific and cultural events.

    PROF. DR. AURELIJA LEONAVIČIENĖ VISITING MASARYK UNIVERSITY IN BRNO

    On 30 September – 7 October, Prof. Dr. Aurelija Leonavičienė from Vytautas Magnus University was visiting the Department of Linguistics and Baltic Studies at Masaryk University in Brno, where she gave lectures to the bachelor, master and doctoral students of the Baltic studies programme. Prof. Leonavičienė introduced the features of the translated administrative texts, lexical and morphological peculiarities of the contemporary administrative speech, the status of the Lithuanian language and the most significant aspects of the language politics in Lithuania.

    VISITS TO THE CENTRE OF LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE AT GEORGIAN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

    On 12-19 September, lecturers dr. Giedrė Barkauskaitė and dr. Jurgita Macijauskaitė-Bonda from Vytautas Magnus university paid a visit back the Centre of Lithuanian Language and Culture at Georgian Technical University where they gave lectures on Lithuanian folklore and traditions; folk costume, folk dances and folk art. Students not only participated in lectures but also in workshops, where they learned to make traditional straw gardens and dance traditional Lithuanian dances.

    THE CALL FOR THE LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE WINTER COURSE AT VILNIUS UNIVERSITY IS NOW OPEN

    PROF. DR. VIDAS KAVALIAUSKAS VISIT TO VYTAUTAS MAGNUS UNIVERSITY

    On 5-14 July, professor Vidas Kavaliauskas from the Centre of Lithuanian Language and Culture at Georgian Technical University in Tbilisi was visiting Vytautas Magnus university, where he delivered seminars on pronunciation and accentuation to students of the Lithuanian Language and Culture Summer School.
