INTERNATIONAL BALTIC STUDIES RESEARCHERS’ CONFERENCE IN PRAGUE DEDICATED TO COMMEMORATE THE YEAR OF FRANCISC SKORINA

On the 8–9 November 2017, Charles University in Prague (The Czech Republic) hosted the international scientific conference “Francisc Skorina and His Prague Bible. Multilingual Cultural Heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Modern Days”, dedicated to commemorate the year of Francisc Skorina, a 16th century humanist and public man.  

Researchers and representatives from foreign centres for Baltic and Lithuanian studies of universities and other institutions in Austria, Germany, Finland, France, Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic and Lithuania took part in the conference, organised by the project “Lithuanian Academic Scheme for International Cooperation in Baltic Studies” executors together with Charles University in Prague. At the plenary talks, the participants of the conference discussed Francisc Skorina’s    personality and his activity in cultural and historical context. A special attention was paid to the Ruthenian Bible, i.e. questions of citation, the role of the Francisc Skorina’s Bible in the history of publishing the Holy Scripture, problems of the old manuscripts and their investigation.
