AN INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP OF BALTISTICS HELD ON 18-20 OCTOBER IN ESTONIA (TARTU): “CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE BALTIC REGION: CONTACTS AND CONTEXTS”

2018-11-08

On 18-20 October, an international workshop of Baltistics, entitled “Consciousness of the Baltic Region: Contacts and Contexts”, was held in Tartu (Estonia). The workshop was organised by the institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. The papers that were presented by the workshop participants were divided into three parts and presented in three days. The first day of the workshop was dedicated to the teaching of the Baltic languages and their flexibility (what we adopt or permit to integrate into our languages, which Baltic universals are recognized in the symbolic poetic language). On the second day, the participants discussed the problems related to translation, whereas narrower research aspects were discussed on the third day. The friendly atmosphere of the seminar became more intense during the brain battle. The participants also enjoyed the excursion in the Tartu University building built in the classicism style and the screening of the film Arčiau žemės, anapus upės directed by Viktorija Jonkutė. The workshop demonstrated that Lithuanian studies and Baltic studies attract young people when academics manage to present them in an attractive manner.
