    ASSOC. PROF. DR. AURELIJA MYKOLAITYTĖ FROM VYTAUTAS MAGNUS UNIVERSITY VISITING LIEPAJA UNIVERSITY

    On 26 November – 2 December, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aurelija Mykolaitytė (Vytautas Magnus University) paid a visit to Liepaja University. During her lectures at this university, she presented the main principles of semiotic and phenomenological analysis to students, who later applied this approach during the seminars to analyse the texts of Romualdas Granauskas and Tomas Vaiseta. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aurelija Mykolaitytė also met with researchers working at Liepaja University who show interest in the Lithuanian language, literature, and culture.

    PROF. DR. HABIL. BONIFACAS STUNDŽIA’S VISIT TO MASARYK UNIVERSITY IN BRNO

    On the 12th–19th of November 2017, Prof. Dr. Habil. Bonifacas Stundžia from the Department of Baltic Studies, Vilnius University, visited the Centre for Baltic Studies at the Institute of General Linguistics and Baltic Studies, Masaryk University in Brno. Prof. B. Stundžia delivered a series of lectures about Lithuanian accentology and word building, gave consultations to students, and discussed with colleagues further prospects of cooperation.

    ASSOC. PROF. DR. AUDINGA PELURITYTĖ–TIKUIŠIENĖ’S FROM VILNIUS UNIVERSITY VISIT TO CHARLES UNIVERSITY IN PRAGUE

    On the 5th–15th of November 2017, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Audinga Peluritytė–Tikuišienė from the Department of Lithuanian Literature, Vilnius University, delivered a series of lectures on the Soviet and modern Lithuanian literature to MA and PhD students at the Centre for Baltic Studies, Charles University. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Audinga Peluritytė–Tikuišienė also participated at the international conference “Francisc Skorina and His Prague Bible. Multilingual Cultural Heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Modern Days”, hosted by Charles University in Prague.

    AUKSĖ NOREIKAITĖ FROM VYTAUTAS MAGNUS UNIVERSITY VISITING REZEKNE ACADEMY OF TECHNOLOGIES

    On November 21-28, Auksė Noreikaitė, a lecturer and ethnologist at Vytautas Magnus University, was visiting the Faculty of Education, Languages and Design at Rezekne Academy of Technologies. She delivered lectures on “Relations between Lithuanians and Latvians on the border between Lithuania and Latvia” and “Ways of expressing Lithuanian ethnic identity on the border between Lithuania and Latvia”. She also talked about the traditions of Christmas Eve in Lithuania and Latgale. Auksė Noreikaitė also met with lecturers from Rezekne Academy of Technologies to discuss important issues in the field of Lithuanian studies.

    LECTURER RIČARDAS PETKEVIČIUS FROM EÖTVÖS LORÁND UNIVERSITY (BUDAPEST) VISITING LITHUANIA

    On 4-12 November 2017, Ričardas Petkevičius, a Lithuanian language teacher at the Baltic Centre of Eötvös Loránd University, came from Budapest for a short-term visit in Lithuania. During his stay at Vilnius University, the lecturer took part in various activities: he participated in seminars, communicated with colleagues, and discussed issues related to teaching the Hungarian language in Lithuania.

    DR. JUSTYNA PRUSINOWSKA’S VISIT IN LITHUANIA

    On 7-16 November 2017, Justyna Prusinowska, a researcher from the Department of Baltic Studies at the Institute of Linguistics at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań visited Lithuania. During her visit, Prusinowska worked in libraries, met with colleagues and attended various scientific and cultural events.

    DR. RADVILĖ RACĖNAITĖ FROM THE INSTITUTE OF LITHUANIAN LITERATURE AND FOLKLORE VISITING WARSAW UNIVERSITY

    On 12-25 November, Dr. Radvilė Racėnaitė from the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore visited Warsaw University, where she delivered a cycle of lectures “The concept of human destiny and death in Lithuanian mythology”.

    SERIES: Studies in Slavic, Baltic, and Eastern European Languages and Cultures

    Books in the series “Studies in Slavic, Baltic, and Eastern European Languages and Cultures” deal with Slavic and Baltic languages and cultures, as well as other Eastern European languages linked by common history and cultural processes. The series contains monographs, edited volumes, doctoral dissertations devoted to the study of Slavic, Baltic, and Eastern European languages.

    THE VISIT OF PROF. ANNA VERSCHIK FROM TALLINN UNIVERSITY

    On 19-26 November 2017, Anna Verschik, Professor of General Linguistics at Tallinn University, visited Vytautas Magnus University and Vilnius University. At Vytautas Magnus University, Prof. Verschik gave lectures entitled “Language contacts on the Internet” and “The situation of English and Finnish in Estonia”, as well as discussed the possibilities of further cooperation with colleagues at the two universities. At Vilnius University, Prof. Anna Verschik met with Prof. Meilutė Ramoniene, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology. She also worked at the University Library.

    INTERNATIONAL BALTIC STUDIES RESEARCHERS’ CONFERENCE IN PRAGUE DEDICATED TO COMMEMORATE THE YEAR OF FRANCISC SKORINA

    On the 8–9 November 2017, Charles University in Prague (The Czech Republic) hosted the international scientific conference “Francisc Skorina and His Prague Bible. Multilingual Cultural Heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Modern Days”, dedicated to commemorate the year of Francisc Skorina, a 16th century humanist and public man.  

    Researchers and representatives from foreign centres for Baltic and Lithuanian studies of universities and other institutions in Austria, Germany, Finland, France, Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic and Lithuania took part in the conference, organised by the project “Lithuanian Academic Scheme for International Cooperation in Baltic Studies” executors together with Charles University in Prague. At the plenary talks, the participants of the conference discussed Francisc Skorina’s    personality and his activity in cultural and historical context. A special attention was paid to the Ruthenian Bible, i.e. questions of citation, the role of the Francisc Skorina’s Bible in the history of publishing the Holy Scripture, problems of the old manuscripts and their investigation.
