Call for Papers: Metaphor and Spac

On behalf of the Organising Committee, I have the pleasure to invite you to take part in the 14th RaAM (the Association of Researching and Applying Metaphor) conference "Metaphor and Space".

RaAM 14: METAPHOR AND SPACE

Vilnius, 23–26 June 2021

We welcome contributions focusing on any aspect of metaphor, metonymy and/or other forms of figurative language and thought, including but not restricted to the following:

  • Theoretical and methodological aspects of metaphor
  • Metaphor in cross-cultural communication
  • Metaphor and Mental Space Theory
  • Metaphor in discourse
  • Multimodal metaphor
  • Metaphor in gesture and other modes/spaces of expression
  • Metaphor and translation
  • Metaphor in learner language and education

Abstracts for oral presentations, colloquia presentations and poster presentations should be no longer than 400 words (excluding references) and should include:

  • Title
  • Clearly articulated research question(s) and their relevance to the conference theme
  • Essential details about research framework, data and methods
  • If possible, (preliminary) results and their interpretation.

You are welcome to submit more than one contribution, but please note that you can only be first author for one contribution. All abstracts, as well as conference presentations/colloquia/ posters, if accepted, should be written/conducted in English. Please also note that while you do not have to be a RaAM member to submit an abstract, paid-up membership of RaAM is mandatory in order to register and present at the conference.

You may apply for one of the following:

Paper presentationsingle or multiple authors 20 minutes presentation plus 5 minutes Q & A

Colloquium presentation3 or more authors 90-minute theme-based presentations with a strong interactive component among the presenters and audience (or two 90-minute sessions on the same topic)

Colloquium proposals should include the title and 3 or more abstracts (of 300-400 words each; outlining each part of the colloquium). Additional explanation (in 200-300 words) regarding how the colloquium will be structured is required

After the colloquium proposal is accepted, individual authors should submit their abstracts via EasyChair for double-blind peer review.

Poster presentationsingle or multiple authors 2-minute presentation. Please note that instructions for poster presenters will be sent out upon acceptance.

Notification of acceptance: 26 October 2020

Abstract (paper, poster) submission deadline: 2 November 2020

Notification of acceptance: 5 January 2021

Abstracts should be submitted through EasyChair. If you have not already done so, you will be prompted to set up an EasyChair account. Our submission link: https://easychair.org/ conferences/?conf=raam14. Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by our Scientific Committee.

While the conference proper will begin in the early afternoon of June 23, we will also host hands-on pre-conference workshops in the morning. There is a separate call for anyone interested in holding such a workshop (deadline 7 September 2020).

Best PhD presentation award

An award will be given to the best presentation by a PhD student. Presentations will be shortlisted in the review process. Please note that only single-authored paper presentations are eligible.
