    23rd International Scientific Conference “The Word: Aspects of Research”

    Liepāja University invites you to participate in the 23rd International Scientific Conference “The Word: Aspects of Research”, which will be held at Liepāja University 29–30 November 2018. The workshop on diachronic and areal linguistics is dedicated to the 90th anniversaries of birth of Professor Antoņina Reķēna and linguist Silvija Raģe.

    ASSOC. PROF. DR. CHRISTIANE SCHILLER’S VISIT TO VILNIUS UNIVERSITY

    On the 15th–20th of August 2018, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Christiane Schiller from Humboldt University of Berlin visited Vilnius University. She worked in Vilnius University libraries, i.e. collected data of Lithuanian folklore, and discussed questions related to research of the old corpus and its digital printing with colleagues from Vilnius University.

    DR. FELIX THIES’S FROM GOETHE UNIVERSITY IN FRANKFURT VISIT TO LITHUANIA

    From the 27th of July to the 8th of August 2018, Dr. Felix Thies from Goethe University in Frankfurt visited Vilnius University. Dr. Felix Thies made a presentation at the International Summer School on Linguistics in Salos and participated at the workshop on digitalisation of Samuel Boguslaw Chylinski’s New Testament “Interactive Digital Edition of Chylinski’s New Testament-4”.  

    The Qualification Development Courses

    The Qualification Development Courses for university teachers are organized in Druskininkai on the 12th–16th of November 2018. The estimated number of participants is 30.

    EDUCATIONAL CAMP IN ŽEMAITIJA TO LEARN THE LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE, CULTURE AND HISTORY

    On the 1st–12th of July 2018, the Educational Camp to Learn the Lithuanian Language, Culture and History took place in Šilutė district, Žemaitija. The camp was organised by Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. Students from 9 centres for the Baltic studies in the universities of Latvia, Georgia, Russia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Poland, and Kazakhstan arrived to the Camp. At the 10-day Camp, the students intensively studied at the Lithuanian language courses. Each day after the studies, they took part in educational, cultural and historical programmes and travelled.

    DIALECTOLOGICAL EXPEDITION IN AUKŠTAITIJA FOR STUDENTS FROM CENTRES FOR BALTIC STUDIES

    On the 23rd–30th of June 2018, the Dialectological Expedition for students from the centres for the Baltic studies aimed at learning about Aukštaitija region, dialects, history, and ethnography took place in Panevėžys district, Aukštaitija. The Expedition was organised by Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. The students from the centres for the Baltic studies in universities of Poland, Latvia, Georgia, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Finland arrived to take part in the event. The students studied basics of dialectology, got acquainted with Lithuanian ethnographic regions, took part in a range of educational, cultural, historical programmes, and travelled.

    DR. SOLVEIGA DAUGIRDAITĖ FROM THE INSTITUTE OF LITHUANIAN LITERATURE AND FOLKLORE VISITING GOETHE UNIVERSITY

    On 1-8 July, Dr. Solveiga Daugirdaitė, a senior researcher from the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore, was visiting the Institute for Empirical Linguistics at Goethe University Frankfurt, where she gave a cycle of lectures entitled “Contemporary Lithuanian Literature” and discussed the development of the Lithuanian mentality and literature in the second half of the 20th century.

    PROF. DR. AXEL HOLVOET FROM VILNIUS UNIVERSITY VISITING GEORGIAN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

    On 2-11 July, Professor Axel Holvoet from Vilnius University was visiting the Centre of Lithuanian Language and Culture at Georgian Technical University in Tbilisi, where he gave lectures to students on the Baltic languages and general linguistics and participated in various other events.

    PROF. DR. LAIMUTĖ BALODĖ VISITING VILNIUS UNIVERSITY

    On 28 May – 6 July, Prof. Dr. Laimutė Balodė from the University of Helsinki was visiting Vilnius University. The professor gave a lecture entitled “Latest News from the Research of Latvian Anthroponymy and Toponymy”, communicated and consulted with colleagues, visited the Institute of the Lithuanian Language, and worked at the University Library and in the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania.

    DR. GINA HOLVOET’S VISIT TO THE CENTRE OF THE LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE OF GEORGIAN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

    On the 2nd–9th of July 2018, senior researcher Dr. Gina Holvoet, Vilnius University, visited the Centre of the Lithuanian Language and Culture of Georgian Technical University. Dr. Gina Holvoet delivered lectures on history of the Bible translations into national languages.  During the lectures, special attention was given to the translations of the Bible into the Lithuanian and Georgian languages. The researcher also touched upon history of the introduction of Christianity into Lithuania, the origins of Lithuanian writing, and the first books printed in Lithuanian.
