    WORKSHOP “LITHUANIA IN THE WORLD, THE WORLD IN LITHUANIA” AT LITHUANIAN UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES FOR STUDENTS FROM THE CENTRES FOR BALTIC STUDIES

                On the 9th of March 2018, the workshop “Lithuania in the World, the World in Lithuania” was organised at Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences for students from the centres for Baltic studies. The event was dedicated to the Restoration of Independence of Lithuania (the 11th of March) and aimed at commemoration of the Days of the Lithuanian Language. Currently 23 students from centres for Baltic studies of foreign universities are studying Lithuanian Philology (Baltic Studies) for a semester and having language practice at Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences in the framework of the project “Lithuanian Academic Scheme for International Cooperation in Baltic Studies”.

    The project representatives from Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences delivered the welcome word to the participants of the workshop. The presentation commemorating the 11th of March was given by future Lithuanian editors, 4th-year students of Lithuanian Philology study programme from Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. Presentations in Lithuanian were also given by students from Georgia, Poland, Bulgaria. At the end of the workshop, students recited Maironis’ poem and performed a Lithuanian song.   

    The workshop was organised by the Department of Lithuanian Linguistics and Didactics, The Centre for the Lithuanian Language and Culture of the Faculty of Education in Humanities, Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences, and the Association of the Centres for Baltic Studies.

    DR. MALGOŽATA STEFANOVIČ FROM THE JAGIELLONIAN UNIVERSITY VISITING VILNIUS UNIVERSITY

    On 8-21 February 2018, Dr. Malgožata Stefanovič from the Jagellonian University was visiting Vilnius University, where she collected material for her scientific article, met with with colleagues from Vilnius University and discussed how to engage students in the activities of the Baltistics project.

    LECTURER AURELIJA KAŠKELEVIČIENĖ FROM HELSINKI UNIVERSITY VISITING VILNIUS UNIVERSITY

    On 19-25 February 2018, Aurelija Kaškelevičienė from the University of Helsinki was visiting Vilnius University. During her internship, the lecturer collected material and created an online course on Lithuanian Culture for the students who study the Lithuanian language, worked in libraries, met with colleagues and planned activities common to students studying at Vilnius University and the University of Helsinki.

    DR. ŽYDRONĖ KOLEVINSKIENĖ’S FROM LITHUANIAN UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES VISIT TO THE CENTRE FOR BALTIC STUDIES AT LOMONOSOV MOSCOW STATE UNIVERSITY

    From the 26th of February to the 4th of March 2018, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Žydronė Kolevinskienė from the Faculty of Education in Humanities of Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences visited the Centre for Baltic Studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University. During the visit, Dr. Žydronė Kolevinskienė delivered a series of lectures „Up-To-Date Lithuanian Literature: Tendencies, Texts and Contexts“ and led workshops on modern Lithuanian literature.

    DIALECTOLOGICAL EXPEDITION

    We kindly invite to register for the Dialectological Expedition which is organised by Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. The Expedition will be launched in Aukštaitija on the 24th–30th of June 2018. The students from centres for Baltic studies are mostly welcome. The students’ expenses for travelling, accommodation and meals will be covered by the organisers.

    CALL FOR THE SUMMER COURSE AT VILNIUS UNIVERSITY AND VYTAUTAS MAGNUS UNIVERSITY AND AN EDUCATIONAL CAMP AT THE LITHUANIAN UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES

    TEACHER AGNIESZKA REMBIAŁKOWSKA’S FROM THE CENTRE FOR BALTIC STUDIES AT UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW VISIT TO VILNIUS UNIVERSITY

    On the 12th–17th of February 2018, teacher Agnieszka Rembiałkowska from the Centre for Baltic Studies at University of Warsaw visited Vilnius University. During the visit, the guest teacher attended Vilnius University teachers’ lectures of the Lithuanian language for foreigners, communicated with colleagues from Vilnius University, collected educational materials for the courses that she delivers at the University of Warsaw. Agnieszka Rembiałkowska also met with students of Baltic studies from Vilnius University and Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences and attended events dedicated to Lithuania’s 100th jubilee.    

    INVITATION TO THE SCIENTIFIC WORKSHOP “SELF -CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE BALTIC REGION: CONTACTS AND CONTEXTS”

    The Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore in cooperation with Tartu University is organising the scientific workshop “Self -consciousness of the Baltic Region: Contacts and Contexts” in the framework of “The Baltists’ Agora”. The workshop will be held in Tartu, Estonia, on the 18th–20th of October 2018.  

    The year 2018 is the year marking the Baltic States’ jubilee which is an occasion to “read” anew the Baltic region, to discuss the Baltic languages, history, mentality, heritage of spiritual and material culture, cultural memory and modern culture of the Baltic states, postsocialist countries’ cultural changes, migration experiences and transformations of Baltic/European identities. Translation from/to the Baltic languages as intercultural synergy is the discreet focus of this year “The Baltists’ Agora”. 

    The event is aimed at consolidating members of academic community from Lithuanian and foreign countries: tertiary teachers, PHD students, undergraduate and postgraduate students.

    REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CENTRE FOR BALTIC STUDIES AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ORIENTAL LANGUAGES AND CIVILIZATIONS IN PARIS GRAŽINA ČIARNAITĖ’S VISIT TO LITHUANIAN UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES

    On the 22nd–28th of January 2018, representative of the Centre for Baltic Studies at National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations in Paris Gražina Čiarnaitė visited Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences (LEU). She met with LEU teachers and observed their lectures for students from foreign universities, attended the workshop how to use computer software designed for teaching foreign languages. The guest also visited LEU Publishing House and worked in libraries.
