Call for Papers: Research for Language Practice: Sociolinguistic Aspects, Terminology Development, and StandardizationCall for Papers: Research for Language Practice: Sociolinguistic Aspects, Terminology Development, and Standardization
2025-12-16The Institute of the Latvian Language of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia invites you to the international scientific conference 'Research for Language Practice: Sociolinguistic Aspects, Terminology Development, and Standardization’, held in commemoration of the 153rd anniversary of academician Jānis Endzelīns. With this conference, we invite participants to explore the interaction between language research and language practice – how contemporary sociolinguistics, the development of terminology, and processes of language standardization shape and influence the use of Latvian in various domains and groups within society and communication. We encourage contributions that examine both the social and cultural contexts of language, as well as developments in language planning, norms, terminology creation, and language policy, outlining their theoretical foundations and practical impact on the linguistic environment in Latvia and beyond. The conference is envisaged as a platform for interdisciplinary discussion, addressing both theoretical and applied linguistics and focusing particularly on issues related to language use, language culture, and the development of the linguistic environment in contemporary society.
